    A very useful project. I would have sanded less or not at all. It’s cedar and an outdoor project that looks fine as a rustic item. Your design has good flow. Well done.

      Mineral oil is made from petroleum. Not sure what they do to make it but it is food safe.

    When I first started turning I made miniature items. I used Taqua nuts. They are a replacement for ivory. I made a complete tea set for a barbie doll. I then made a tea table from a piece of corian as the top and some cocobola for the base. Your goblet is really small. I will have to make some of them also. Take care and stay safe. I very much enjoy your videos 🤔 "But" 😲 your shorter format I lose the setup, the problem solving, the planning. So I lost 95 percent of your teaching / instructional value that you have to offer and gain about 50 percent of editing thru time just not as much value of time. You seem that you enjoy what you do as I see it, it is a loss for you as well as a loss to me. Many youtubers make content without sponsors or is this another form of advertising😳 Holding back thumbs up for now.🥴

    Hi Tim. I'm new to turning and came across your video. I'm wondering how you mounted the piece of lacewood for the large narrow top of the mushroom? I know you said you made a tenon but how did you make it? Did you have to mount that piece of wood earlier on the lathe in some other fashion? I'm just trying to figure out how to get a tenon on such a thin piece of wood. Thanks.

    • @woodturningwithtimyoder
      @woodturningwithtimyoder 7 дней назад

      I mounted a piece of waste wood with a tenon on it in my chuck. Then I put double-sided tape on that wood and stuck the mushroom top blank on that. Then I cut a tenon that was only about 1/8 of an inch long. Popped it off the double-sided tape and then put the mushroom blank in the chuck. It does not take a long tenon to hold small pieces like that.

    Legit curious, how many charges did it take to get through that beam with the electric chainsaw?

    • @woodturningwithtimyoder
      @woodturningwithtimyoder 9 дней назад

      Barely touched the battery. I probably could have made fifty cuts. If it was wet wood even more. It is the Green Works 40 volt with a 4 amp battery.

    Beautiful, and the two part design would be awesome here in Michigan where you can't build your mailposts too strong (mustn't hurt the idiot drivers who run into them!) yet the snow plows MUST knock them over at least once a month!

  • @drodver
    @drodver 10 дней назад

    Disagree. Your problem with clogging happened suddenly when your bar went parallel to the log. Get the log off the ground with a saw buck and keep the bar at a bit of an angle and avoid the clogging. Also, the long shavings from cutting the long way are way easier to pick up unless you have a very smooth surface to sweep.

  • @randysmith9715
    @randysmith9715 10 дней назад

    Tim; If you finish the turning with a skew (aka devils can opener) used in a shearing cut you can start with 400 grit sandpaper and it only takes 2-3 minutes to sand. There is a web site "International Association of Penturners" dedicated to pen turning.

    I wish I could have caught the PBS years, but I enjoy every episode I come across. Did the electric chainsaw bind, or loose charge at any time?

    • @woodturningwithtimyoder
      @woodturningwithtimyoder 9 дней назад

      No it was just a little slow. If it had been green wood it would have cut faster. I probably had 50 more cuts in it left.
